Regina
José Galindo, born in Guatemala City in 1974, is a multidisciplinary
artist. Her art constructs social and cultural memory and collective
pain through performance art, video installations and poetry and other
mediums. Galindo is a prolific social artist. Galindo's vigilance to
resisting violence in her work creates space for us all to do the same.
Her work has received international attention and acclaim. Although
her work is derived from her Guatemalan experience, Galindo has received
awards and prestige from an international art community including the
Leone de Oro, Artist under 35 at the 51st Bienale di Venezia in 2005.
Though her work clearly translates across cultures, the audience interpretations
change when taken outside of Guatemala, which is the political climate
in which her art is inspired.
