In La Serpiente Enchilada, Jesusa Rodriguez gives a history of how Mexico's national symbol--the eagle and the serpent atop of the cactus-- came to be. Then, in one fell swoop, the President of Mexico, Vicente Fox, pulled the feathers from the eagle. This, according to Jesusa, is indicative of his reign.
