How
can we resist the negative aspects of globalization?
We
may begin with an understanding and acknowledgement of globalization
as a very real political, economic, historical process. We may also
begin with a belief that social change through activism is an attainable
goal. Then we may look to such movements as "grassroots globalization"
as an alternative to corporate-led globalization. "Grassroots
globalization" efforts cross borders in the name of public
coalitional interests rather than the desires of private interest
groups. It is crucial to hold corporations accountable for activities
deemed detrimental to local communities within the global community.
Eventually, corporations must make concessions if popular demands
are strong enough. We may also scrutinize the media and the ways
in which it is complicit with corporate-led globalization efforts.
Take
to the streets. Take to the pen (or pencil, or brush, or any other
imprinting instrument). Take to the media. Take to the internet.
