Fascism

Fascist Trends in the United States of America

The policies of the United States, both internationally and in its domestic context, have become increasingly oppressive in recent years. In the post 9/11 world it would not be incorrect to identify the inclinations of this superpower as imperialistic towards the world, colonialist in Iraq, and fascist in its own homeland. During our class discussions around the historical occurences of Fascism, we routinely found resonances in our contemporary contexts. In a class assignment on a short dicussion of a particular fascist performance, students identified the numerous ways in which the U.S. was becoming fascist in its public displays. The following papers are a selection from those responses. While they are not exhaustive in their analysis (and nor were they meant to be for the purpose of the assignment), they are presented here for their discussion on the different aspects of the Bush administration, and its intersections with administrative performances under Mussolini and Hitler.
