MapUrbe'zine

MapUrbe'zine is a fanzine oriented towards Mapuche youth that live in poor urban neighborhoods. The fanzine is a specific genre of “homemade” magazine that is closely intertwined with the alternative heavy-metal and punk circuits. In the cities of Patagonia, Mapuche youth participates actively in these circuits. The MapUrbe'zine circulates mainly in punk and heavy-metal performances, community radio stations, and different alternative spaces in poor neighborhoods. The zine reaches youth of different cities of the provinces of Río Negro and Chubut .

Since it was launched in 2001, MapUrbe'zine has allowed the participation of young Mapuche and, at the same time, has begun developing a specific aesthetic and language using urban Mapuche slang. Through this language, the zine shares political analysis about the current situation, as well as historical discussions and cultural issues. Moreover, the zine encourages the participation of Mapuche poets, visual artists and photographers.
