The Annual Encuentros are ten day intensive programs held in partner institutional sites in the Americas. They allow for intensive focus on a more narrowly-defined topic as suggested by the site and by the particular research interests of seminar participants. The 'Encuentros' are part seminar, part academic conference, but also dedicate significant time to live performances and hands-on workshops on performance practices and activist strategies. We successfully held our first seminar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (summer 2000), and our second was held in Monterrey, Mexico (summer 2001). Our third year we had approximately 300 participants from across the Americas in Lima, Perú (summer 2002). Our fourth seminar was hosted by New York University and held at the Washington Square campus in lower Manhattan in July of 2003.
