Body as a ritual space

Chair: Zeca Ligiéro

Can identity choices be seen as a way of ritualizing the space of the body?   The process of body ritualization is part of our contemporary life. Can we think about the body independently from the physical space it occupies? What do models of ornamentation, body painting, scarification, tattooing and piercing have in common regarding questions of body identity? Can we perceive in contemporary fashion structures an ancient ritual process? Can artistic manipulation be seen as a ritualistic process in terms of use of the body? The discussions will include religious as the artistic and/ or hybrid performances.
