Biographies
Elizabeth Theobald Richards is an experienced arts administrator, strategic planner, theater artist and Native arts advocate. An enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, she is the first Native American to serve as a Program Officer at the Ford Foundation. She currently works in the Media, Arts and Culture Unit at the foundation and oversees a portfolio on Indigenous Knowledge and Expressive Culture in the United States. She was Director of the Public Programs for the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Reseach Center in Connecticut, the largest tribal museum and library in the U.S. She oversaw the planning, development and implementation of all interpretive, educational and artistic programs presented to the public. For the past twelve years she has also worked as a playwright and director, developing scripts by Native American writers and has successfully brokered artistic connections between Native artists, mainstream organizations and other ethnic/racial groups. She oversaw "Theater from the Four Directions": a collaboration between the Pequot Museum and Trinity Repertory Company that has produced festivals, symposia and two full productions. Betsy earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Administration at the Yale University School of Drama, and has published on Native American arts and culture in several anthologies and journals.
Danilo Miranda: Sociologist and specialist in cultural action, he is currently managing the Regional Department of SESC in São Paulo State, which has thirty centers in the State that offer physical and sporting development, socio-educational leisure and also work in the cultural field. BA in Philosophy and Social Sciences, he carried out complementary studies at the Pontífica Universidade Católica of São Paulo, at Fundação Getúlio Vargas/São Paulo and at IMEDE – Management Development Institute, in Lausanne (Switzerland). He is the continental vice-president of Federação Internacional de Esportes para Todos – FISpT, member of the management of World Leisure Recreation Association – WLRA and vice-president of Associação Latino-Americana de Lazer e Tempo livre. He is also a counselor of MAM – Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, of Fundação Cultural Itaú, of MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand and of the Art of the World Museum/Switzerland. Adding to this, he is President of the Council of Directors from the Fórum Cultural Mundial/2004 in São Paulo, and acts as member of CONSEA – Conselho Nacional de Seguranca Alimentar. Also, he is a director at the International Institute for Cultural Enterprise/USA. Danilo Miranda has taken part in international events as a lecturer and has been honored with recognition for his actions in favour of Culture.
Armindo Bião: Professor of Drama Interpretation at UFBA and President of Fundação Cultural da Bahia. Actor in Salvador (Hedda Gabler/97, Ciranda/85; Amor do não/80, Bocas do Inferno/79, Auto da Compadecida/78, Tabu/76, Blue Marinho/75, Eletra/72, O médico a força, 67) and in the USA (Henry V/82, Scapino/81), he has also worked on movies and TV. Armindo Bião staged in Salvador (Isto é bom demais!/2002 – as experiências do Teatro Dan Dan/74-76), Paris (Le baroque à Bahia/2000) and Rio de Janeiro (Il campanello di notte dello speziale/82); and he has published papers in journals, complete works in annals of events and books, particularly in Brazil and in France. He is a Doctor for Sorbonne (1990) and has a Master Degree from the University of Minnesota, USA (1983); he was considered the best Actor in Bahia/79-80 and got the Troféu Especial Brasken/2002. He is a scholarship researcher level 1 from CNPq, Knight of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
Wander Melo Miranda: Doctor in Letters for USP (1987); Full Professor at Faculdade de Letras/UFMG; Visiting Professor at UFCE (1989-1990), UFBA (1993), Duke University (2000), Universidad de Buenos Aires (2003) and Universidad Nacional de la Republica del Uruguay (2004), having taught MA courses. Member of ABRALIC Board of Directors (1990-1994); member of the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA); Director of Centro de Estudos Literários (CEL) at FALE/UFMG (1990-1994 and 1996-1997), Director of Editora UFMG. He was general coordinator of the Projeto Integrado de Pesquisa Acervo de Escritores Mineiros since 1991, supported by CNPq, and also of the International projects: Margens/Margens (1996-1999), Modernidades Tardias no Brasil (1996-1999), both sponsored by Fundação Rockefeller. Wander Miranda is also the coordinator of the project Margens e resíduos culturais (2003), sponsored by CAPES/SECYT (Argentina). He translated from Italian to Portuguese: TABUCCHI, Antonio. Noturno Indiano (Rocco, 1991) and VISCONTI, Luchino. Ângelo. (Rio de Janeiro: Editora 34, 1993); and he is author of several papers published in Brazil and abroad, and of Corpos Escritos: Graciliano Ramos and Silviano Santiago (São Paulo, Belo Horizonte: Editora Edusp, UFMG, 1992); Cuerpos escritos.
