Angola: Objects and Connections

Angola: Objects and Connections explores the creation of visual narratives by drawing on objects and information, and relating them to their individual and social dynamics. The aim of this work is to problematize discourses that impose specific versions of the origins, representations, and identity constructions of black people.

Biography

Mercedes Angola is visual artist, professor, and researcher. She received her BA in Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and completed her MA in Visual Arts at the Universidad Autónoma de México. Her work has been exhibited in individual and group shows in Colombia and internationally. Since 1997, she has been affiliated with the School of Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She is currently researching aesthetics and visual representations of black populations in Colombia.
