Ballad of Oil and Water

Ballad of Oil and Water is an experimental film combining performative intervention and street art with documentary footage of environmental activists preparing a tree-sit. The resulting two worlds comment on our blindness towards consumer culture’s ability to act as an alternate reality, masking its connection to global environmental destruction.

Mon Iker is a multidisciplinary artist and change agent whose work spans a variety of media, ranging from street art, paintings, and photography to performance, animation, and film. She currently lives and works in NYC and is a collaborator at Not An Alternative, a research and production organization engaging the border between art and activism.
