Interview with Larry La Fountain-Stokes (2009)

Interview with Larry La Fountain-Stokes, conducted by Antonio Prieto Stambaugh, during the 7th Encuentro of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, held in August of 2009 in Bogotá, Colombia under the title Staging Citizenship: Cultural Rights in the Americas. In this interview, Larry La Fountain-Stokes talks about his take on how his particular performance-related work makes a political intervention in the public sphere. This interview complements his participation in a round table on Citizenship and its Frontiers: Multiculturalism, Interculturality, and Migration, presented in this 10-day event, which brought together activism, scholarship, and art around the themes of legacies, memories, struggles, and frontiers of citizenship.

Biography

Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes specializes in Latina/o studies; Puerto Rican and Hispanic Caribbean studies; women’s, gender, and sexuality studies; lesbian, gay, and queer studies; and theater and performance. He received his BA from Harvard College (1991) and his MA and PhD from Columbia University (1999).
