The Gun as Performance

Convener: Roewan Crowe

In this workgroup, we will engage in discussions concerning the performance and representation of violence. As artists, activists and scholars, how can we deepen our practice, and articulate more clearly what we are doing when we represent violence in our work? What can be learned from experiential, affective, artistic, and theoretical engagements with guns and gun culture?

Roewan Crowe is a trans-disciplinary artist and scholar, Associate Professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department at the University of Winnipeg, and Co-Director of the Institute for Women’s & Gender Studies. She recently completed her manuscript, Quivering Land. She is currently a Fellow at the Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics.
