Camp Sincerity, or the man that got away
In a night of Trasnocheo tributes to our beloved comrade José Esteban Muñoz, I was honored to bring out my inner (and not so inner) cabaret queen. José had many gifts; one of them was for bestowing nicknames. One of his nicknames for me was “Ham Diva.” (He coined it on the spot many years ago, when I told him I was giving a talk on Judy Garland for an MLA panel we were both on.) So, in the spirit of that nickname -- and fresh-ish from the karaoke can -- here's a little something for el hombre que se fue.
Performed during a special night of Trasnocheo organized in memory of José Esteban Muñoz. Curated by Tavia Nyong'o, Jack Halberstam, and Macarena Gomez-Barris
