Circulo

'Circulo' is a show in the style of Latin American political cabaret. Ivette Roman, experimental vocalist, Freddie Mercado, plastic artist and Amhed Irrizarry, pianist, unite to reinterpret contemporary Latin American songs. This show is dedicated to Antonio Pantojas, "the Diva" of Puerto Rican cabaret since the 1970's.

Biography

The Puerto Rican performer Ivette Roman began her career as an experimental vocalist in LAPD (Los Angeles Poverty Department). This group, founded by off-Broadway director John Malpede, involved the collaboration of homeless from poor neighborhoods with a small group of resident artists. The group made ​​a significant impact within the Californian Performance Art movement of the eighties. After this experience, Roman began to do live presentations in California, then returned to Puerto Rico in the early nineties, and since then has been an active participant in the cultural scene of the Island. Some of her compositions are Las Voces del Maleficio (1995 - Biennial of Visual Poetry, UNAM, Mexico City) and the marathon Rompeforma (Fine Arts Center, Puerto Rico); Sinfonia del Silencio con Cuatro Movimientos Necesarios (1997 - Sound Poetry Festival Bologna, Italy and the Laringitys Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico), I Love You with All my Heart (1998-Batie Festival, Geneve, Switzerland) and Sinfonia Comic Guitar (2001 - Second Hemispheric Institute Encuentro of the Hemispheric Institute in Monterrey Mexico).
