The Virgin of Guadalupe World Tour

Did you forget to make your pilgrimage to La Virgen this year? Don't worry: she understands. With today's hectic lifestyle, it can be hard to make time to get down on your bare knees and crawl for miles to the Basilica. That's why La Lupe, Inc. brings the Virgin to you! On Saturday, July 19th, enjoy the convenience of experiencing La Guadalupana up close and personal right in your home town-a one-time only special appearance! This performance installation explores two main themes: the hyper-commercialization and commodification of religious icons, on the one hand, and the "whitening" of Latinos when they cross over into mainstream pop culture, on the other.

Biography

Fulana emerged as the vision-fusion of four Latina artists joined by a love of film and performance, an unhinged sense of humor, a poetic itch and 'most of all' a shared desire to create art within a collaborative onda. We are filmmakers, playwrights, directors and actresses who use humor and satire to explore themes that are relevant to Latino cultures in the U.S., delving into the nuances that bind our experiences, experimenting with strategies to make visible what we're so often made to read between the lines. The fulanas are: Cristina Ibarra, Lisandra Ramos, Marlène Ramírez-Cancio and Andrea Thome.
