The participants will be introduced to Boal's Theater of the Oppressed games and exercises. They will be involved in various forms of collaboration. The games and exercises can be applied to making original performance/theater works and to classroom/community interactions, while addressing the distinctive roles of culture and education in that process. Fundamentally, these approaches will engage critical thinking and allow the participants to examine the commonalities and distinctive manners with which we perceive the social/political matrix of our everyday lives.
Biography
George Emilio Sánchez is a performance artist who lives and works in New York City. For the past two years he has served as the Instructor for the Hemispheric Institute's EMERGENYC Young Performers project. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to Peru and two NYFA Artist Fellowships. He is also the Chairperson of the Performing and Creative Arts Department at the City University of New York's College of Staten Island.
