Queloides/Keloids is an art exhibit that seeks to contribute to current debates about the persistence of racism in contemporary Cuba and elsewhere in the world. The exhibit will be hosted at the Centro Wifredo Lam in Havana, then transferred to the Mattress Factory Art Museum in Pittsburgh, PA (October 15, 2010 - February 27, 2011). The twelve artists invited to participate are renowned for their critical work on issues of race, discrimination, and identity.
Four of the artists - Marta María Pérez Bravo, René Peña, Armando Mariño and Elio Rodríguez - will join Professor Ana Dopico (NYU Spanish and Portuguese) in a roundtable discussion.
A reception will follow.
This event will be in Spanish, and is open to the public.
Co-sponsored by the Hemispheric Institute of Performance & Politics and the NYU Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
