1928. On 6 December 1928, the National Army of Colombia opened fire on protesters in the Banana Workers' Strike, who were assembled in the Ciénaga Plaza. Among the identified victims were Bernardino Guerrero and Erasmo Coronel, leaders of the strike, and labor organizer Bernardo Castrillón.

1988. On 3 March 1988 in Turbo, Antiuquia, paramilitaries backed by the armed forces of Colombia assassinated Julián Carillo, José Francisco Blanco, Guillermo León Valencia, Manuel Durango, Omar Ochoa and 15 other banana plantation workers.
