CHANG(E)

Chang(e) is based on the life and work of Asian American performance artist/dancer Kathy Change, who is infamously remembered for her last “performance” in which she set herself on fire and danced in protest to the political apathy of elite college students.

Biography

Soomi Kim is a current Artist in Residence at HERE Arts Center and Hemi. Kim has created and performed in (with director Suzi Takahashi) two full length shows: Lee/gendary and Dictee: bells fall a peal to sky (adaptation of Theresa Cha’s Dictee). Chang(e) completes a trilogy of performance based on Asian American figures whose lives were cut short.
