Moving Through Encounters

Moving Through Encounters

Members of the Encounters ensemble will facilitate a series of playful exercises in performing the “self” and the “other.” Participants will interact with each other through movement, gesture, images and text. We will stage moments of encounter, and “explore to explode” identity, politics, pop and/or political cultures, and our own assumptions about who we are and how we manifest in the world. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity to debrief and share discoveries. Participants are asked to arrive ready to move, and to be open to a few small risks among strangers. This workshop is adaptable to many abilities.

Encounters is an intercultural performance ensemble based in Montreal. We are artists with wildly diverse histories and values. We create a theatre of relationship, of encounter, through performing ourselves and an “other”. Our theatre is a mashup of identities, an attempt to explode assumptions and intervene in a troubled time.
