"Mami's Feast: Sketching the Borders."/ "La Fiesta de Mami: Esquecheando la Frontera."

Mami's Feast: Sketching the Borders began as a narrative play exploring the mother/daughter relationship between La Virgen de Guadalupe and Malinche in the US/Mexico border. It premiered at the Actors Studio Latino/a Theater Festival in 2003. The piece has morphed into a movement-based work exploring the relationship of the Mexican Catholic icons and the body of a man living in the fantastical space of the border. A non-descript "el," speaks/moves through La Virgen de Guadalupe, Malinche and the "macho." The man is searching for the identity of "la madre."

Biography

Jesús Canchola- Sánchez, an MA in Performance Studies at NYU and currently an MFA candidate at the Actors Studio, is the "cabeza y performero" behind Mami's Feast: Sketching the Borders and is beginning the journey of establishing a professional career as a multi-faceted performer, writer and director in New York City.
