Amendments

The photographs of contemporary landscapes—dramatized figures in performance—comment on modes and sites of resistance and protest. Rooted in the English creole language, the accompanying text poetically refers to this notion of resistance and the possibility of overcoming. The female characters are visualized in the photographic and textual descriptions of the landscapes of Trinidad, London, India and elsewhere.

Biography

Roshini Kempadoo is a photographer, media artist, and lecturer based in London, UK. Her research and practice is based on the photograph re-worked as factual and fictional re-imaginings of historical legacies. Her work is concerned with the way in which photography and multimedia artwork may encompass everyday practices, rituals, and events. She is concerned with inequalities, racism, and prejudice as it affects persons of the Caribbean diaspora both presently living in the Caribbean and those migrated to the UK and elsewhere. She is currently Reader in Media Practice at the School of Social Sciences, Media and Cultural Studies, University of East London. She holds a PhD by Creative Practice in Art at Goldsmiths College and other degrees in Visual Communication, and Photographic Studies.
