Performing artist Soomi Kim will be joined by featured guest Joseph Shahadi in a discussion stemming from the topic of Shahadi’s essay “Burn: the Radical Disappearance of Kathy Change” (The Drama Review, Spring 2011). Shahadi writes of Kathy Change’s self immolation, “Change’s determination to use her death as a vehicle to carry her message to the students she performed for, and beyond them, to the press and public, and it is the meticulous planning and sensational execution of her suicide that lends itself to an analysis of her actions as performance.”
