Cuentos Eróticos Africanos: El Decamerón Negro

Cuentos Eróticos Africanos is based on The Black Decameron, a compilation of African folk stories by anthropologist Leo Frobenius. This is a shortened piece of the original production of Teatro Esquina Latina, with two actresses instead of the original four. The play is a spectacle of storytelling that creates the scene, for young people and adults, of the daily life, humor, and the game of love in the land that is Africa.

Biography

Teatro Esquina Latina is a cooperative student theatre group founded in 1973 at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. The group is a non-profit, privately run entity built from the ground up by 30 people who collaborate to deliver administrative, artistic, social and cultural services to the community in general. The ultimate purpose of this institution is to contribute to culture and performing arts, train for making art, and to investigate, develop and present theatrical propsoals; in short,  to provide social and community sevice and to promote a a culture of environmental education for sustainable human development. During the last 29 years, Teatro Esquina has created more than a decade of shows, which authors and groups have written themselves, illuminating the possibilities of theatrical language. They have shown permanent installations in their theater hall, which was inaugurated in 1980 with their repertoire and groups from the region and the rest of the country. For 18 years, Teatro Esquina has maintained an outreach program for young people in impoverished areas in the District of the Aguablanca and in 11 municipalities of Valle del Cauca named “Conformación de Grupos de Interés Teatral para el Uso Creativo de Tiempo Libre, el Desarrollo y la Participación Comunitaria”.
