Insanity and politics, instinct and rational thought, cross in a dialogue that evokes the days of the great Revolution, the noise of the guillotine and the clamor of anthems, the lights and shadows—the contrasts—through the lives of the characters that are at once actors and protagonists of an age. This is the year that the Monarchy dies and the Republic is born; but it is also the year of the assassination of Marat. How can the actors of this Comedy, hidden by Sade in the basement of Charenton, witnesses and protagonists of their time, tell their experience?

Charenton, by Flora Lauten and Raquel Carrió, is a vaudeville opera adapted from Peter Weiss' Marat/Sade that investigates the continuity of revolution in a Cuban context.
